Any message posting a URL with a number on the end like that is guaranteed
to be spam, where the poster collects some sort of fee for each click. If
anyone's curiosity gets the better of them and they try it, at least take
off the number first.

Thanks, Miguel, that's useful to know. (I am heartily in favor of
making spamming as unprofitable as possible to those flooding our
in-boxes with it!)

That's not always the case - as an example the URL below points the
user to thread number 82 on the KLM Passenger Forum:
http://www.travel-mania.net/klmforum/showthread.php?threadid=82
Take away the number 82 at the end of the URL and the link won't work
properly.

You are correct. When I said "a number ... like that" I meant a longish
number on the end of something that otherwise would appear to be a "start
page". Of course I didn't say any of this - it was obvious to me but upon
reconsideration is clearly not "obvious" to most, as it's a fairly esoteric
topic.
