Does anyone have any information about cheap vacation ideas for students? I
would appreciate any information.

Habitat for Humanity or any relief program in the Central
American/Caribbean area. That's about as cheap as you can get without
appearing on the next "Girls Gotten Drunk" video.

I ran into a group of college kids on Andros last fall who were weighing
Loggerhead Turtle poop or some such thing. Primitive living and hot
sweaty work, but it seemed to be a good cause. They were in Georgetown
on their last night and I got them pretty loaded up on beeer with $40. I
went back to the Nekton live-aboard before the video (may or may not
have) started rolling. Look through your or other college's
bio-humanity-theology whatever department.

There are volunteer opportunities on many islands, I recently met a new
co-worker who had lived and volunteer worked a mile away from my grass
shack on Roatan.

You're young. Do it now.

How cheap? You can often find air-hotel packages for countries like the
Dominican Republic for about $500 out of major gateway cities. Or you could
just poach the discount airfares, get down somewhere for $300 airfare, and
then find cheap lodging on your own. Don't try doing that in the countries
that cater almost exclusively to high-end tourists (Caymans, any
French-speaking island, etc.) or you'll end up bankrupted by hotel and food
costs.

If you travel off season, it is cheaper. From your email address it
appears as though you are in Utah. There are some reasonable cruises
out of California. The cost is very reasonable if you have 3-4 people
in each cabin.

Good luck.
