"Florence and Lou Roth" < some find

Ah, yes, I like sedate. I want to listen to the ocean waves instead of the
screeching of brats---um---I mean the high-pitched and never-ending squeels
of unadulterated joy or angst, after midnight, bellowing from multiple
lovely, undisciplined, wild cherub-demon spawns of parents with selective
hearing.
Yes, we have no children, and,
yes, we have no grandchildren.
We are free!

Then, do HAL. HAL has "Walnut" written all over it!

Soooo ~~~~~ are you saying that there are not many kids on HAL at
Christmas? (or Thanksgiving for that matter?) I would like also to cruise
at those times, easy to do for us since we live in FL, however I am afraid
of being consumed with kids!!!

I don't think there may be *as many* kids onboard an HAL ship during
the December holidays as, maybe, a Carnival ship or an RCI ship. I
have been on ships during this time of year ( to see the decorations),
but have not actually cruised.

Others here may have a different opinion or other information.

Karens, does HAL deserve the reputation, generally, as being populated
with seniors, many of which are physically challenged?

Yes, I'm sorry to say they do, although I think HAL's trying to change
that. 'Don't know how successful they've been.

Are we talking physically or mentally? I could be accused of both!
Just joking,

Is this a repeat pax syndrome or do you think that HAL's marketing was
geared to that population? I noticed they have "youthed up" their
public image a bit.

I was talking physically. Seniors, or any physically challenged
person, in small hallways, is a ,well, challenge to patience.

And they fart a lot.

Your able-bodied patience or mine?

Oh, I was hoping that my stealth farts would go unnoticed online. I guess
the homeymoon is really over.

HAL gets a LOT of repeaters. We were fans of HAL, and will no doubt
sail on one of the new ships someday, but we reached a saturation
point with them. The service, amenities, food were taking a dip, so
we looked elsewhere.

JMO, but I wonder if the marketing is bringing in a younger crowd at
all?

I don't know and I would think that this would be a hard trend to
reverse especially with existing reputation among TA's and experienced
cruisers. I don't know if there are reliable stats either.

What I do know is that HAL is not on my short list because of the
number of seniors. Call me prejudiced, I don't care. there are so many
other options these days and money ain't cheap.

The number if seniors is one of the reasons we chose HAL. There is never a
problem getting a stretcher by the pool. The pool is never crowded. The
exercise room is virtually empty. Since many seniors retire early, we have
free reign of most of the ship, many the casino and lounges. We generally
have our choice of seats at the second show in the show lounge. For
breakfast we usually eat in the Lido, we found the seniors eat very early
and by the time we eat, the Lido is empty and ALL the prunes are gone.
Sources tell me the seniors attack the prunes, in the morning with vigor.

I don't know the reason, but the crowd on both the Zaandam (I think it
was Aug. 2001 - but maybe it was 2002) and the Zuiderdam (Jan. 2003)
were younger than what we've encountered on other HAL ships. Both of
these were 7-day Caribbean cruises.

Between these two, we sailed on a longer Rotterdam cruise, and the
average age of the passengers seemed to be more like what we've seen on
other HAL cruises.
