Default Job in Canada vs. no mortgage in US...

I have just posted a question about maternity leave options for an
immigrant to Canada, and I have another question that some of you may
want to weigh in on.

My US fiancée and I are considering settling down in Canada. The factors
affecting our decision are these:

I have a great job with an almost-guaranteed future, great benefits,
excellent pay (for Canada), and great superiors.

She owns a house in the US that she cannot sell (family inheritance).
If we don't live there, the house will go to someone else. It's small,
but it will do the trick, and comes with about an acre of land. So, we
would have no mortgage, and could add on a room at a time for only a
few thousand (per room).

I've been to university and I do mostly computer support & some
programming, but don't have any certifications under my belt yet. I'm
lucky to have the job I have now, but I also know people in the US with
nothing more than self-taught programming & very little experience that
get great jobs in the US.

I know we must make the decision on our own, but our families both
advise us to move to the country their in (of course), and our friends
are all newly-weds.

We want some advice from people who have had some time to weigh their
life decisions like this. I'd also like to hear if anybody have advice
about how good it would be to avoid a mortgage at the expense of no
public healthcare system.

I'm asking a lot, but ANY advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
