Looking for a very cheap apartment to start living in immediately
I am looking for a dirt-cheap apartment (bachelor or smaller) and do
not want to pay more than $150 to $200 in rent per month. It doesn't
matter what city the apartment is in, as long as it NOT a room in a
house and NOT shared accomodation, but a separate apartment by itself.
I plan to move to Canada immediately and need this apartment and I
don't mind a long-term lease as I will be working from home itself.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on whether such a cheap, long-term
apartment is available ANYWHERE in Canada ? (I have looked on the web
and no separate bachelor apartment seems to be as cheap as $150 to
$200, in any part of the country, so any ideas will be very helpful.)
Thank you very much.

Re: Looking for a very cheap apartment to start living in immediately
You will not find an apartment like that anywhere in Canada, I am
afraid. Compared to say US, housing in Canada (like many other things
as well) is extremelly overpriced. Even in the States finding a place
to live for what you are offering is quite unrealistic. Perhaps in the
southern Mississippi or north-western Texas. You are looking at a
minimum of $400 in Canada, and the quality will be very-very poor for
this price. Decent apartment in a decent place may approach $1000.
Good luck.

Although I agree that there is no chance to get anytnhing at less than
$200, there are many decent small apartments available for less than
$1000. Even in Vancouver, an OK bachelor suite can be got for $600
and I'm sure for less in most other places

Never say Never
Of course you can get anything, as you say any city. You can get such place
in Yellowknife or Inanuit. That part of Canada is in your range of money.
actually 200$ might get you a nice one up there.
Good luck !

Re: Looking for a very cheap apartment to start living in immediately
Singh --
I believe housing is very expensive in the areas you mention (Yellowknife
and the NWT in general).
Apartment homes run at almost 99% occupancy and rents and cost of living in
general is way higher than the rest of Canada.
Just because they are remote areas, doesn't mean that everything will be
cheaper there - quite the opposite in fact.
I hope the poster hasn't already left for Yellowknife after reading your
reply.
Last I checked, it was around -35 C there )
