Default Mexico - one-way car rentals vs. bus

A bit at the last minute, I looked into car rentals in Mexico as I am leaving tomorrow for two weeks, for time in Mexico City, Oaxaca and the coast. I was absolutely astounded to discover that one-way rentals are exorbitant to the point of being unaffordable. A four-day rental would have cost around $200 plus insurance, but dropping a car off elsewhere (in this case pick up in Oaxaca and drop off in Huatulco) would have added $150 or more to the bill.

Now it's going to be the bus, which I don't really mind, but it's too bad... have other people had these experiences?

Beleive it or not but that is probably cheap for Mexico. Car rentals in Mexico are very expensive. Most people who fly in and want to travel around a bit use busses, which are very modern, most with air conditioning, airline seating, curtains on windows and television. For getting around inside a city taxi's are very very cheap.

I've had friends coming over from the Uk and they had a vergy good experience with carrentals.co.uk and they have found that these guys have a pretty good price range...or so I was told.
