American Express card in Canada
Hi
If you get an American Express card in Canada(based on previous US
credit history) and start using it, does it count towards your credit
history in Canada or in the US?

Its a Canadian card and you pay the AMEX bank of Canada.

My guess is Canada just from a practical perspective. I mean, if
you default, and they need to collect, what use would it be to ruin
your US credit if you are now in Canada.

So can I take a step back here... Does this mean that you can apply for a Canadian Amex card and they will look at your US credit history. That sounds great for new Canadians with no credit history. Just want to make sure I'm understanding right.

Let's look at the question in another way. If you get a credit card in
Izbekistan, would it affect your credit history in Izbekistan or in Canada?
Obviously it would affect your credit history in the country in which
the card was issued. However, if you use your US credit history to get a
card, you COULD be opening yourself up to future investigations of your
Canadian history if you apply for a card in another country. Therefore, if
you default, it could reflect negatively.

Alas, it is unlikely your non-Canadian history will benefit you much.
You may just be starting off at the bottom (i.e. $500 credit limit).

As far as I am aware, when you emigrate
to Canada your credit history is zilch. Even if you have great credit or
whatever from your country of origin, Canadian banks couldn`t careless
about that. You start from scratch. That`s what I had to do.

I called AMEX, and they considered my US AMEX history.
(You get denied, and then you have to call customer care and tell them
you have AMEX card in the U.S.)
I got 5500 credit line.
And AMEX Canada reports to Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada.
It won't affect your U.S. credit history any way.
