Default Coney Island Cyclone $8 a ride!

Went to Coney this weekend and almost had a heart attack! Ride went
up from $5 to $8 this year. I had 4 people with me and I promised
them a ride. $32! Yikes!

Seriously, several families came up to the window and walked away.
There were 6 people total on the ride. They are gonna be hurting
this summer, I think.

What do you all think?

I was told re-rides also went up from $4 to $5. Haggling is still
allowed once on the platform (after you pay your initial $8 for the
first ride). The ops that sell re-rides do make commission so they
are usually willing to go to the boss for approval for a "special
deal".

Not sure what the deal is this year, but Mon-Fri Astroland sells a POP
band that has typically included "x" amount of rides on Cyclone (I
recall a punchcard with 5 rides). Not sure what it is going for now,
but details should be up at www.astroland.com

Weekends you're SOL unless you buy the group sales tickets (minimum
purchase of 100 rides is required). Not sure what the per ride rate
is, but its probably in the $4 range (so if you've got a large group
that plans on returning often to Coney this year, the $400 can be
split up).

I've been told Astroland is having a record year business-wise thanks
to gas prices and perfect weather.

Man, that's a shame. I remember a couple of years ago a friend and I
spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 on re-rides on the Cyclone
just because the guys kept haggling with us, down to a buck or 2 each
sometimes. It was a total blast, in fact the most fun about the
Cyclone rides, to me, was the haggling and re-rides.

It sucks that now, even to get to that point, you have to drop $8. I
love the Cyclone, but there comes a point at which Breakdance rides
seem like the better option. (hey, the cycle's longer, right?)

On a light rider night you may not even stop to pay the $8, just go straight
to the platform and negotiate!!!!

Still not as bad as Vegas where it's over ten to ride the New York
Coaster. First time in my life I ever refused to ride a coaster on
principal (cost). Vegas was so much better when the mob ran it. They
would still get your mortgage payment on the tables but would atleast
offer cheap if not free entertainment. Why anyone pays 12 or 15 bucks
or whatever it is to ride blows my mind...

In short, I thought Vegas would be my ultimate paradise- truth is (and
this is not only considering coasters but all else well) unless you're
a above avergae poker player Vegas is a terrible place to visit....

The guys tried haggling us 4 to re-ride for $12. I had already spent
$32 and wasn't about to spend anymore. Plus, the ride was rather slow
and jerky that day. Ended up with a bad headache and a backache the
rest of the day. Still, I love the Cyclone and ride it every
summer. Such a glutton! LOL.

And, yes, the POP band now only includes 2 rides on the Cyclone. Used
to include 5.

COME ON!!!
Pay around $50 at major theme park. How much does it come to when you ride
6 rides all day???
CYCLONE is worth it. If that's what it takes to ride that time machine/
piece of art....then so be it

Best coaster ever!

It's worth it because of the historical value. But it's a very rough
ride. Some people like that, I wasn't to thrilled about it.
Visiting Nathans where they have the hot dog eating contest is also
worth it. Plus walking along the boardwalk and having an ice cream
cone. All good stuff if visiting NYC.

NY NY roller coaster in Vegas is now $14. Rode it a month ago on a
recent trip out there. I knew bout the rough ending so I was
prepared. The first part of the ride is still great, especially the
2nd drop. It's still running great if you realize the last part is
going to shake you around and you're prepared for it.

Yeah, I already ranted about Vegas being rigged, now they call it
"entertainment." Played slots and broke even. Will probably go
back next year just for the chance at winning a jackpot, even though
the odds are worse than lotto. The odds of hitting Megabucks are 48
million to one and usually only happens once every 2 years or so.
Florida lottery is 22 million to one and hits every week or two.

The best part about Vegas is playing the drink game. I was screwing
around on a penny video slot machine waiting for my drink, and turned
$20 in $100. It was some William Tell machine near the entrance of
Mandalay Bay. It kept playing a bonus round and the pay off was $20-
$60 each time. I'll remember that one when I go back in a year.
I was like, this is cool, I'm drinking Long Island Ice Teas for $1
each and winning money.

Some people just don't know when they have it so good! I have to spend
several hundred dollars just to fly to New York to ride the Cyclone.
And I've done it in the past. So for another $8 for a single ride, I'm
not going to let that stop me! If I have to spend $80 for ten rides, so
be it.

You gotta live and have a life! I have friends who last rode the
Cyclone 40 years ago. They can still recall being terrified on it.
Memories like that are imprinted into the brain, are priceless, and last
a lifetime. I have a lot of great memories on the Cyclone. What a
great ride!

I ABSOLUTELY agree!
That coaster was a legend passed onto me from my mother and cousins when I
was a kid. Nothin in Pittsburgh was like it!
I paid 50 cents for my first ride in '60's. I rode it 3 times!
Porportionaltely to what kind of money I made then and how little I had with
me, I was paying about $100 a ride to where I am now.....it was and always
will be worth it.
I try and get back every season if possible!
There were years it was fast and smooth ( not runmbling in each valley) and
there have been years when I it felt like I was in a car wreck. I will
always go back to ride as long as it is running and I am breathing!
The top of the first drop looking at the ride ahead and the beach and ocean
is one of my favorite places on earth!!
LONG LIVE THE CYCLONE!!!
