Barbados Scuba Diving
Hi All!
Does anyone know what the snorkling/scuba diving is like in Barbados,
especially on the south coast. I'm thinking of going round about the time
the barmy army goes (early May )
thanks,

The barmy army will be in Barbados at the end of this month, not May.

Snorkeling/scuba diving is not that good on the southcoast. All corals near
the beaches are dead, and there is nothing much to see than sand and some
few sand coloured fishes. But there is some few places that you can go that
is better. In Carlisle Bay, just outside Bridgetown is a sunken small ship.
There is normally plenty fishes around the small vessel, and you can easily
reach it with only mask and a snorkel.
It is not easy to find, but ask some locals on the beach. Not all people may
be able to point out the spot for you, butt I am sure that some people must
know.

Re: Barbados Scuba Diving
OK, not fantastic. They have a lot of wrecks you can dive on, including the
Stavronikita, a big Russian freighter that was prepped for diving and sunk.
I've dove with exploresub scuba at St. Lawrence Gap several times. Good
outfit, just watch and don't do the "close encounters" thing more than once.
They like to go out and feed this stingray, but there's not much else in the
area. They seem to do this a lot!

It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's
newspaper, that's the time to do it.

Oh, I guess I must have been misunderstanding the question asked. I thought
scuba diving was only snorkeling with mask and snorkel...
Then there is more things to add:
As you said, there is several wrecks along the coast, among them
Stavronikita. That one is pretty deep, and is not for beginners. Correct me
if I am wrong, but I think it is down on more than 30 meters depth.
They also say there is good diving on the south east coast. But I dont think
it is that common to dive there. Dont know why. Perhaps it could be
intersting things to find around the shores of Sam Lords Castle. Many ships
was tricked to belive they had reached Bridgetown, but went down with their
ships when they sailed straight on the reefs. Sam Lord had hung lots of
lights up in the trees to trick them. And could later on go out and plunder
the sunken ships...
