Default Programmer Job Market - New Immigrants

I would like to start a topic as I want to get feedback from others in
Canada. What are you thoughts on:
1. Salary levels for programmers with degrees compared to other 4-year
degree jobs.
2. Are you advancing in your career.
3. Are you finding much opportunities to switch to better paying jobs.
4. Generally what do you think is the future to the programming profession
in Canada.
5. What would you consider the perfect I.T job.

I am a immigrant 3 years in Toronto

Great idea, why don't you start with your answers to those topics ?

Middle of the road thesedays but declining in relation to other 4-year
degrees.

No.

>3. Are you finding much opportunities to switch to better paying jobs.

There are very few jobs in my area and I know that if I lose my job,
it could take 1-2 years to get another one.

Dismal. Considering getting out.

One with job security. One without 19 different managers that I
answer to. And that micro-manage me to the limit.

In all honesty, very few companies actually hire computer programmers
anymore. It is a dying breed. Either they outsoure their work. Or
they buy packaged software and customize (packages such as SAP)--thus
they don't need programmers anymore; just system admins.

You're an ignorant bastard who is forging my name and posting from a
hijacked proxy in the Phillipines. You will have to find another proxy
soon enough.

Why are you posting the same survey every other day?
You did get a few responses last time.
And since you are an immigrant for 3 years, why don't you provide your
answers first.
