Default (SSA) social security tax refund
Hi folks,

Some time ago someone posted a question reagarding social security tax
refund for those who were on temporary visa like H1, and moved to
Canada.

First of all, can a refund in this circumstance be requested or not.
If yes: is there any update on this issue. Has anyone filed for refund
this year or earlier and got refund, based on a similar criteria as
stated above ...

No. There is no refund if you have been working in the US on a work
visa. The only people entitled to a refund of SSA taxes are those who
are in the USA as non-residents required to maintain a residence abroad
they have no intention of abandoning, such as students, or those working
legitimately on a B-1 visa.

Those who are admitted on an H1B are not required to maintain a
residence abroad and therefore must pay SSA taxes as if they were a US
PR or citizen.
