Thankyou for the info. I also foaund similar info in the lonley planet
guide, but
as you say, they quote the "can". I Only have a couple of weeks, and it
maight be safer
doing it through the interior instead of through the coast!

Thanks again,

Txema

Default Re: Going From jericoacoara to (Barreirinha) Lençóis Maranhenses

Hi!

I am actually writing to answer my question
about the jericoacoara - Lençóis Maranhenses route in case it may be useful
for somebody, since I am already back from
Brazil. Going from Jericoacoara to Lençóis Maranhenses is much more easier
than
what I read in different travel guides, and actually a very nice trip,
despite that you need
few days, it is worth doing it!

So the first stage is Jericoacoara-Parnaiba.
First one must reach Camozin. There are different ways to do it,
from "public transport" , that leaves at 4:00 am, and takes around 3.30
hours (10 $R, 3 Euros),
or hiring a Buggy/4WD which takes about 1 hour (40 $R, 13 Euros) . It is a
beautiful trip along the beach,
you can arrange with the driver to visit in different points in the way
(inceases sligthly the price),
to crosse some dunes, or even see sea horses in a delta that the buggy
must crosse.
From camozin there are two buses to Parnaiba one in the morning I think at
11, and another at 15:00.

In Parnaiba one can spend a couple of days to explore the Delta.

Next stage is Parnaiba - Tutoia there are two options: Public transport,
that leave early in the morning an ah 16 and 16:30. The second option is
going by boat,
but the boat works only every to days (when it works!).

The final stage is Tutoia-Cabure-Barreirinhas. We hired another truck from
tutoia
to Cabure (i think it cost us 20 or 30 $R, 2 hour trip).
Cabure is an amazing place, one can spend a night there which is worth if
you are
finding something quiet, or continue to Barreirinhas using the different
boat options:
small fast motor-boats (1 hour, 50 $R-16 Euros) or big boats (4 hours 10
$R, 3 Euros).

And once you are in Barreirihas, Sander van Hulsenbeek described quite
well the
different options you have there!
