Founder & Company Director TheTravelForum-Chris Posted November 18 Founder & Company Director Share Posted November 18 Bought something in Vietnam, anything from food/drink to a bus ride or experience or hotel stay? Or found something for an amazing value/price? Snap a quick photo and write the place or town and the price to let others know the cost of living/travelling here. Bonus super LOVE reactions for those who can spot/buy the best value items. ----------------- I will start it off, with this reasonably affordable priced meal in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC also known as Saigon)..... Broken rice and (very tender) pork chop with an egg on top + an iced tea. Grand total of only 50k dong = $2.06 USD or £1.65 GBP at the time of writing. Also served with fish sauce and optional chilli sauce. No serviettes and the wet tissues/wipes you need to pay for if needed, but they are only 2k dong each $0.09 USD or £0.07 1 Quote We use Airalo e-sims when travelling. Founder & Company Director TheTravelForum-Chris Posted November 21 Author Founder & Company Director Share Posted November 21 HCMC, Vietnam 🇻🇳 Phin Deli, which is a chain similar to Highlands Coffee but much less branches. They offer a smart modern decorated interior with WiFi, the same you would expect at a Starbucks or other large coffee shop chain, but at a fraction of the price. Starbucks in Asia is usually not that much cheaper (if at all) than you would get back in London. Phil Deli prices seem to be even more reasonable than highlands coffee as well. Ordered their regular size which is larger of the sizes they they offer. This Vietnamese white coffee was only 40k dong 40k dong 🇻🇳 $1.64 USD £1.32 GBP Quote We use Airalo e-sims when travelling. orientexcess
Not food or drink, but a cheap and regular day trip from Saigon. The Cu Chi tunnels I joined a tour and we took a large van (Merc Sprinter?) to the site, there are cheaper alternatives. 'Located in the outskirts of Saigon, Cu Chi Tunnels is another historical witness of the Indochina War and Vietnam War. The whole tunnel is actually an underground city having all the needed facilities like hospitals, meeting rooms, kitchens, and hundreds of kilometers of road tunnels connected. The deepest layer is 10 meters under the ground and only about 0.8-meter high – enough for one crawling person at a time. Now, for visiting purposes, certain parts of the tunnel were expanded so you can go in the tunnel and imagine living in it for days or months. There are local buses running between Saigon downtown and Cu Chi Tunnel. From District 1, it is easy to catch bus No.13 directly to Cu Chi Bus Station for only 7,000 VND (30 cents). From there, take the No.63 bus to get to the site. Entrance ticket: 110,000 VND/person (included snacks) Address: Tinh Lo 15 St, Phu Hiep Ward, Cu Chi District' https://vietnamnomad.com/destinations/ho-chi-minh-city/ There was no way I was going to fit here! I took a more 'easy' option! An abundance of booby traps. Claustrophobic A 'Western' entrance Edited November 22 by orientexcess 1
Founder & Company Director TheTravelForum-Chris Posted November 22 Author Founder & Company Director Share Posted November 22 (edited) HCMC, Vietnam 🇻🇳 I ordered what was called ’choco’ at a local independent Vietnamese coffee shop assuming it would be some sort of mocha. Seems to be a chocolate milkshake, it’s incredible good and only 40k 40,000 dong $1.64 £1.32 GBP I also had forgotten that at some local Vietnamese coffee shops it’s customary to serve a free glass of iced tea with your coffee. A nice touch Looking at the menu I can also see now that they do have a Mocha style drink, ‘Cacao Cà Phé’ for only 30k dong 30,000 dong 🇻🇳 $1.23 USD £0.99 They also have regular coffee for just 25-28k Edited November 22 by TheTravelForum-Chris Quote We use Airalo e-sims when travelling. Founder & Company Director TheTravelForum-Chris Posted November 28 Author Founder & Company Director Share Posted November 28 HCMC, Vietnam Boa Bun grab order from Pao Bén Thành 59,000 Vietnamese dong 🇻🇳 $2.42 USD £1.95 GBP 47,000 Vietnamese dong 🇻🇳 $1.93 USD £1.55 GBP The traditional Taiwanese was very nice and quite interesting, (has peanuts so be careful if you have a nut allergy) the PaO with spicy sauce with an undeclared meat (guessing it was chicken) was a more expected bao bun filling (with Korean style carrots/slaw) that you likely have tried before. Ordered over 100k to get the 15k Grab subscription discount but also clicked through and found an offer which took a massive 29k off of the order! Which resulted in a total order with delivery and fees of just 81k dong! 81,000 Vietnamese dong 🇻🇳 $3.32 USD £2.67 GBP 2x Bao Buns delivered for £2.67 GBP!
